About Me

Thank you for visiting my website! My name is Chris.

I started Unmasked Economics for two reasons. The first was that I really enjoy learning and understanding systems. The global economy is incredibly complex and it affects all of us. Something that happens thousands of miles away in another country could throw the global economy into chaos. The second reason I created this site was because I wanted to share my opinions and help explain how the economic system works and how regular people can learn and make better decisions for themselves.

I am also neurodivergent. I have ADHD and autism. Economics, markets, and investing are some of my special interests.

I don’t have a typical background in finance or business. I went to school and got my degree in elementary education. My teaching background is a reason why I want to share my opinions and get others to ask questions about the economy.

My interest in economics started during the Covid pandemic. The school I was working at closed, so I had time to learn. I saw the stock market tank, then the Federal Reserve cut interest rates, and soon we got checks from the government. I didn’t understand what was going on, so I started learning. I wanted to understand what was happening to make sure I made the right decisions with my money.

When I started learning, I realized how much of this isn’t taught in school. I went to college and took a basic macroeconomics course, but even that didn’t scratch the surface of how the global economy functioned. I started to notice that old advice and ideas didn’t apply to the current day. I decided to dive deeper and learn as much as I could. My brain looks for patterns and explanations and starts asking questions.

If the economy is so strong, why are so many people struggling to keep up?

Why are homes so expensive?

Why do prices always increase?

I started asking more questions and digging deeper and deeper. Then I decided to create a website to share what I’ve learned.

What is Unmasked Economics?

I created Unmasked Economics to help the average person understand the economy they participate in.

Here is what my site is trying to do:

  1. Explain the economic system. How is money created? What does the Federal Reserve do? Who owns government debt? These are the questions that weren’t answered in public school.
  2. Explain why we are living in unprecedented times. There has never been a time in history where a country (the US) whose world reserve fiat currency is carrying this much debt relative to GDP. What does that mean for the future? How will markets react?
  3. Explain what you can do with this information. I’ll never tell you what to do (because I’m not a financial advisor), but also because everyone’s financial situation is unique. My goal is to help educate so that you can start asking the right questions and making better decisions for yourself.
  4. Share my opinions. This is just a way for me to talk about things. It’s good for me to get my ideas and thoughts out because if I don’t then I can’t stop thinking about them. An unfortunate side effect of being neurodiverse.
